Someone considers them to be little impudent dogs that always bark, and someone is madly in love with them! Let’s find out some interesting facts about this cute dog breed with a funny name – Chihuahua.
They Came From Mexico
Chihuahuas come from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. They were first discovered in the mid-19th century around 1850, but the dogs of this breed as we see them today emerged after years of crossbreeding. It is believed that the Spaniards brought the Chinese Crested dogs to Mexico, and after crossing with the “indigenous” Chihuahuas, they produced the small dogs we know today.
Chihuahuas Have Two Different Head Shapes
There are two types of Chihuahua head shape – apple and “deer” type. The first type implies a more rounded skull, a more prominent forehead, a short muzzle and bulging eyes. “Apple” is the most common type among Chihuahuas. Dogs with a “deer” type have an elongated head with a longer muzzle. The shape of the skull is more oval.
Chihuahua is One of the Most Aggressive Breeds
Chihuahuas are known for their “hot temper” and are considered one of the most aggressive dog breeds in the world – along with German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Pit Bulls. As with other aggressive dog breeds, it is advisable to allow them to play and interact with other dogs, people and children from a very early age. This allows them to be calmer.
